ABSTRACT

These severe service conditions can lead to intensive surface damage of the cutting and stamping tools. Several mechanisms of tool wear have been identified for machining tools: (1) adhesive wear, (2) cratering (or chemical) wear on the rake face of the cutting tool because of chemical instability, including diffusion and dissolution, (3) abrasive and (4) fatigue wear, most often low-cycle fatigue (Figure 6.1) [1-3]. Some authors have also discussed the electrochemical and delamination wear of HSS cutting tools and, especially, stamping tools. Delamination is related to fatigue wear [4].
