ABSTRACT

The melt fracture behavior of nearly all commercially signi–cant polymers has been investigatedextensively.Theliterature,however,isstronglybiasedtowardPE.Not surprisinglyasPEgivesrisetothewidestvarietyofmeltfracturephenomena. Most otherpolymersshowlessextrudatedistortionvarietyorareessentiallymeltfracture freeduringtypicalprocessingoperation.Consequently, meltfractureisnotalways perceived as a problem for most polymers, even though the same polymers still havethepotentialforgivingrisetoextrudatedistortionsunderdifferentprocessing conditions.
