ABSTRACT

He cites molar absorptivities of 0.081 and 0.044 l/mol-cm, respectively. This band is probably a nonbonded S-H. It is also weak in the mid-infrared, although strong in the Raman. Although a bonded S-H would be broader and placed at a lower wavenumber (higher wavelength), Williams has indicated that the S-H is not as amenable to hydrogen bonding as the O-H. Liquid thiols (mercaptans) have sharper peaks than liquid alcohols.
