ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with multilayers at polar magnetization. It discusses the situation where the propagation vectors of the incident, transmitted, and reflected radiation are all parallel to the common axis of the layer magnetization vectors. The chapter aims to treat the case of an arbitrary orientation of the propagation vector in the plane of incidence. In multilayers with polar magnetization, the magnetization vectors are perpendicular to the plane parallel interfaces in all layers. At polar magnetization and normal incidence, the use of the 4 × 4 matrix formalism in modelling the magnetooptic effects linear in magnetization can be demonstrated with a minimum effort. The chapter considers the response of the multilayer at polar magnetization and normal incidence from a slightly different point of view. The simulations of the response at normal incidence and polar magnetization in magnetic multilayers with ultrathin films of ferromagnetic metals have been the subject of papers.
