ABSTRACT

This chapter represents the generalization of the results obtained for magnetic multilayers polar, longitudinal, and transverse magnetization. The analytical representations will be provided in terms of Jones reflection and transmission matrices for a single-interface, magnetic film on a nonmagnetic substrate, and a magnetic film on a magnetic substrate separated by a nonmagnetic spacer with arbitrary and independent orientations of magnetization. The main goal of the magnetooptic vector magnetometry is to determine the development of magnetization in dimensions. The principal components in magnetooptic response, i.e., polar, longitudinal, and transverse ones, contribute with different weights. In the case of a finite thickness of magnetic layer(s) in a multilayer system, the situation becomes more involved because several layers and interfaces contribute. The explanation of the magnetooptic response requires a model of the multilayer system based on the structural information and using computer simulations.
