Q fever (medical) Query fever. An acute febrile illness

caused by infection with the micro-organism Coxiella

burnetii, a species of Rickettsia. The organism normally

infects sheep, cattle and goats, passing to them from wild

animals via ticks and lice, but humans acquire the

infection by inhaling dust from dried excreta or drinking

infected milk. Also termed queensland fever.
