Technical and Food Grade White Oils and Highly Refined Paraffins

White mineral oils were first developed by a Russian chemist, J. Markownikoff, and the first plant for their manufacture was set up in Riga, Latvia, around 1885. When European supplies to the United States were cut off during World War I, the L. Sonneborn Company was the first U.S. company to begin to manufacture them and used Pennsylvanian crude.
