ABSTRACT
The goal of this chapter is to equip you to make better decisions when purchasing or developing standards-conformant e-learning components. After deciding what components will be included in your e-learning infrastructure, you need to determine which standards apply to those components. We will look at how the standards map onto each of the major asynchronous e-learning components. Where more than one standard applies to a component, we will discuss the relative merits of each. Finally, we will offer some guidelines for talking about standards with e-learning vendors. For details on obtaining any specifications referenced in this chapter, please see Appendix B.
