ABSTRACT

Once the change process is nearing completion, the need arises to assure that the changes will “stick.” This is often referred to as “institutionalizing” new processes. Organizations are like rubber bands — they return to their original, natural state once the pressure for change diminishes. The same is true of organizations besieged by change initiatives. Once the wave passes business-as-usual returns. As the opening quotation notes, many managers are incapable of making long-term change stick in their companies.
