ABSTRACT

Thinking in supply chain terms brings the need for new ways to describe partnerships. In Chapters 14 and 15, we described different motivations for partnerships and different types. For the company considering partnerships, we have developed a classification methodology for defining what we want to accomplish with partnerships and what kind of partnership will produce that result. This approach will reduce the risk of going to the altar with the wrong partner. Classifying partnership types also furnishes a vocabulary for discussing the need for partnerships and weighing the viability of candidate partners.
