ABSTRACT

Overseeing what can be a complicated effort requires new ways to organize and control the effort. A previous article describes what we refer to as “Stage 3” supply chain management.

Stage 3 refers to the interorganizational nature of the effort. Stage 1 is department level; Stage 2 is the business unit, or company, level. New Stage 3 practices will produce a cooperative effort, including partners in supply chain improvement. We believe the following features will characterize Stage 3 supply chain improvement.
