ABSTRACT

Once an organization has decided to compete on the basis of supply chain design and performance, management must begin the process of changing their supply chains. The “prestudy” assesses opportunities for improvement in order to decide where to begin. The prestudy recognizes that identifying supply chains in a complex operation is something of an art. Many operations overlap. Many departments support multiple products. Products are sold to a variety of customers in different market segments, each of which has different objectives.
