ABSTRACT

This case study describes the process for designing, obtaining funding for, and implementing a major distribution center. The case stresses the importance of planning in successfully completing the project in a short time. The distribution center was motivated by retail customer demands for more “value added” by their suppliers. In this case, as it is in many others, the value added put more demands on supplier distribution centers. Such demands include direct-to-store shipping, labeling, and accommodating a variety of shipping requirements.
