ABSTRACT

In this case, Mike Tracy describes the support provided in the model-year launch of the LH model produced by DaimlerChrysler (then Chrysler Corp.). The launch was a major opportunity to upgrade the system used by Chrysler in bringing components to its assembly plant. The case describes the role of a third-party engineering group to manage the process. The purpose was to decrease the lead time to meet the launch schedule. The case also describes the features Chrysler sought in changing its system for handling incoming material.
