ABSTRACT

The origin of most cancers can be often traced to a single transformed cell.1 The evolution of the disease follows a yet-to-be completely understood pathway of molecular transformations occurring at both genomics and proteomics levels as depicted in Figure 6.1. Most cancers show a significant preponderance to statistically originate from a well-defined part of their respective organs. It is then only normal that investigations to identify biomarkers indicative of the early onset of the disease be focused on these organ-specific regions.
