ABSTRACT

Nutrient deficiency commonly referred to as malnutrition is widespread in most of the developing countries. In the developed world, the malnutrition particularly for micronutrients is observed in children, adolescents, and pregnant and lactating mothers (Pilch and Senti 1984; Dallman et al. 1984). Iron deficiency anemia (IDA), vitamin A deficiency, and iodine deficiency disorders are the most common disorders found in malnutrition. Thirty percent of the world’s population is affected by iron deficiency (WHO 1992a). Nearly 4-5 billion people are suffering from either clinical or subclinical forms of iron deficiencies.
