ABSTRACT
Multiphase operations in monoliths have been the subject of research for over two decades. The work was initiated by the hydrodynamic studies of Satterfield et al. [1]. The first commercial implementation was established by Akzo-Nobel [2] for the production of hydrogen peroxide in the anthraquinone process and more recently Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. [3] introduced the use in a loop-reactor concept for the dinitrotoluene hydrogenation.
