ABSTRACT

Personnel involved with testing being asked by production for a retest is a common occurrence. Therefore, a most advisable philosophy is to ensure that the results are true and all the equipment used can be shown to be working correctly. To ensure this commitment, some important parameters must be met prior to testing:

Table 17.1 lists the standards used for testing carbon fibers and for precise details, these standards should be used as the reference source. It is proposed to briefly discuss the various techniques used for testing, comparing methods and indicating some of the pitfalls. The emphasis is on the techniques used by carbon fiber manufacturers for routine testing and customer support, and does not cover methods used to obtain design data, which can be obtained by direct reference to the relevant standards, textbooks and references.
