ABSTRACT

This chapter attempts to flesh out the overall picture of adhesion measurement by presenting a few “real world” examples of how particular measurement techniques can be employed, how the results are analyzed, and what the consequences are in terms of impact on manufacturing processes. As Prof. Gordon points out in the quotation, these are complicated situations in which the failure mode cannot be anticipated in advance, much less accounted for by rigorous calculations. Nevertheless, when appropriate measurement methods are at hand, one can proceed to systematically do experiments that eventually reveal the cause of the problem and further provide a quantitative basis for applying corrective measures.
