ABSTRACT

The general trends with respect to the change of surface configuration caused by the change of contacting medium is reviewed based on the state in which the sample is kept after the change of contact medium. Explaining the surface dynamic changes, the terms migrate and move are used; however, these motions are within the context of surface configuration described in Chapter 23. The term migration refers to the directional movement of moieties perpendicular to the surface of film in the context of surface configuration change, which is achieved by conformational change of macromolecules and should be distinguished from long-range migration such as that by diffusional transport.
