ABSTRACT

The merit or demerit of employing pulsed discharge entirely depends on the objective of LCVD application. For example, if an LCVD is used to decorate the surface of material with some specific functional group, pulsed discharge allows placement of functional groups that can be predicted from the chemical structure of the monomer. On the other hand, an LCVD is used to lay down protective or barrier coating with superadhesion (type A plasma polymer), the deposition of oligomeric structure would not provide a good adhesion or a good protective layer, and hence a great advantage could not be anticipated. Pulsed discharge tends to yield type B plasma polymers.
