ABSTRACT

Chapter 5 laid out some turnover statistics that show why it is better to keep your project management talent than to find new talent. As we have shown, training and development, as well as the provision of meaningful opportunities for personal and professional growth, will play a large role in making a company an “employer of choice” for project managers. One of the key questions the smart project managers will ask early in the hiring game or soon after arrival is: “What’s my future here?” (Or, reflecting the new mobility in the workforce, “What does this work experience add to my future prospects?”) Companies sometimes worry that the investment they make in developing personnel will be wasted if those individuals leave the company. However, a more important question might be: What if you

do not

train or develop your project management personnel … and they

stay
