One argument against cellular manufacturing is that each cell has its own dedicated equipment — a potential problem, opponents say, because the equipment can’t be used for products made outside the cell. The result is lower equipment utilization. For the Hoffman cell, however, Avi followed the common practice of creating a cell that would produce not just one product but an entire product line or family.
