ABSTRACT
Releasing products, deploying services, and controlling changes are basic activities in software engineering. We did not encounter any organization that did not do that. How well they did it is another story. Almost everyone in the field understands the implications of not doing it. In fact, any organization that develops products and services calling on Information Technology (IT) and does not control the versions of these products and services is unlikely to be in business very long.
