ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to examine content delivery with respect to the enterprise. Commencing with a discussion of when and why content delivery should be accomplished in-house, we will turn to several techniques that can be employed to facilitate the delivery of content. Because the most effective method to determine an appropriate content delivery mechanism requires knowledge of where data must flow, and the quantity of data in each flow, we need some knowledge of the enterprise’s operating environment. This author would be remiss if he did not include a discussion of traffic logs. Now we have a general appreciation concerning where we are headed, let’s proceed and investigate the Content Delivery Network (CDN) enterprise model.
