ABSTRACT

The Army has an established doctrine and guidelines for the counseling of subordinates. The success of any professional development program for new employees or employees that we want to promote up the ladder is dependent on the quality of the counseling we provide those employees to assist them with their personal professional development. Figure A6.1 is from a presentation that I make on a regular basis to future commanders on how to better counsel and develop their young officers and noncommissioned officers. Before we take a closer look at each one of the points in the figure, we need to establish the types of counseling necessary to develop employees and leaders.
