ABSTRACT

You must be able to see yourself from the customers’ eyes and from the competition’s eyes. How do they see you? The commander of the Operations Group

at the National Training Center addresses every unit that comes there to train. One of his bits of guidance is that they should be able to see themselves in order to gain a better understanding of their ability to do their missions. The goal of every leader and manager in a supply chain should be the same. The better the leader or manager is at seeing himself or herself, the better he or she can direct and lead the organization in accomplishing the mission. Knowing yourself is not enough. To be successful in the supply chain, you have to know your competition and your customer. This chapter looks at why it is important to know yourself, how to gain this knowledge, and how to apply it to improve the supply chain.
