According to a survey by Lawson, Stratton, and Hatch (2004), 70 percent of organizations using the balanced scorecard use some type of software in their implementation. Of these organizations, 31 percent use off-theshelf software, 43 percent use software developed in-house (e.g., database, spreadsheet), and 27 percent use a combination of the two.
