ABSTRACT

Traditional storage on embedded systems was done using a ROM for storage of read-only code and a NVRAM for storage for the read-write data. However, they were replaced by flash technology, which provides high-density nonvolatile storage. These advantages combined with the low cost of flash have dramatically increased their usage in embedded systems. This chapter discusses the storage systems primarily around flash devices and the various file systems available on Linux meant for embedded systems. The chapter is divided into four parts.
