ABSTRACT

OSHA regulations permit individual organizations to select any of five options for manual fire fighting. These options and some of the associated requirements are illustrated in Figure 9.1.

If all employees are to evacuate the building immediately and no one fights the fire, education on the emergency action plan is required. No emergency organization is necessary. When all employees are permitted to fight fires in the facility, no organizational structure is provided. Individuals must receive education in the use of fire extinguishers and their role in the emergency action plan, but hands-on training is not necessary.
