ABSTRACT

Hazards common to wastewater facilities, collection systems, and laboratories include exposure to infectious disease, physical injury, confined spaces, toxic chemical exposure, electrical shock, explosive gas mixtures, noise, oxygen-deficient spaces, and dust, fumes, and mist exposure, to name only a few. The plant safety official can literally be overwhelmed when attempting to reduce the numerous hazards that are present in wastewater work. A tool that the plant safety official can utilize in attempting to put good order and safety practice into typical wastewater work activities is a Manual of Safe Work Practices.
