ABSTRACT

The first program to examine is Responsible Care because it is the oldest environmental self-regulatory program and is the only one initiated by a group of companies in the same sector. Starting with this case first will result in a unique base to help understand the potential of self-regulation. Our study will cover the history of the program, eligibility for participation, program elements, and an examination of the benefits and criticisms of the program. Finally, conclusions will be drawn about what can be learned about Responsible Care as a self-regulatory initiative.
