ABSTRACT

The EPA promulgates environmental regulations, enforces them and works with industry, state, local and nongovernmental bodies to disseminate information and best practices. It also provides grants and incentives to achieve compliance and pollutionprevention objectives and supports research to develop innovative environmental technologies, measuring tools and management systems. It is frequently the leading agency for U.S. participation in international environmental treaties and organizations. For details on activities, see the summaries under each program entry.
