ABSTRACT
Hazardous substance removal, remediation, and response projects from abandoned sites are governed by the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), 42 USC §9601-9675. Congress instituted this Act, commonly known as Superfund, in 1980 and reauthorized and amended it in 1986 through the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA).
