ABSTRACT

Immediately after a disaster situation, the finger pointing usually begins. Employees have been injured or killed, families have lost loved ones, property has been damaged, product has been lost, orders are not getting filled and someone is going to be responsible. Within a relatively short period following a disaster situation, safety professionals can expect to be inundated with claims, legal complaints, insurance adjusters, and a myriad of other legal issues of various types and various sources. Safety professionals should prepare for this deluge of legal matters and integrate the management of this area within the overall emergency and disaster preparedness program.
