ABSTRACT
Project managers are tasked with the responsibility of identifying the most costeffective, technologically feasible remedial procedures to restore the site to a usable status, within monetary, time, and regulatory constraints. Starting with the preliminary site investigation phase and continuing throughout the life of the project, the manager continually evaluates procedures to control ultimate (bottom-line) costs. Maintaining a focus on the final goal of the project (end-point approach) allows the project manager to accomplish the task. This approach involves looking at all of the major project tasks simultaneously:
• Description of the physical setting and evaluation of contamination; • Identification and evaluation of risks to human health and the environment; • Identification of regulatory restrictions; • Establishment of site-specific remediation criteria; • Determination of a closure schedule; • Evaluation the total project costs of each remediation option.
