ABSTRACT
By the 1970s, the realms of spacetime and the quantum had been explored in detail. With general relativity, Einstein had remapped the nature of reality on cosmic scales, pointing the way toward the big bang. Meanwhile, the pioneers of the quantum revolution had revealed the fuzziness of nature at small scales. And with these achievements as a guide, scientists began blazing a trail backward through spacetime.
