ABSTRACT
The internal combustion engine technology for automobiles reached an operation level at the end of the 19th century. It has since developed strongly, and an abundance of petroleum resources has been discovered. Engine technology has developed by generating increasingly high power output with an increasingly compact body since the 19th century. At the beginning of the 21st century, this trend is still the same, although ecological views need to be taken into consideration.
