ABSTRACT
The detection of light patterns involves a sequence of processes not only in the eye but also in the brain. The interpretation of the data transmitted from the retina to the brain is the last but by no means the least part of the sequence. However, it is best to begin by considering only the structure of the human eye, which is shown in simplified form in figure 6.1.
