ABSTRACT

Understanding of phenomena that occur in combustion processes and internal combustion engines is important from the viewpoint of efficiency improvement, energy conservation and environmental protection. However, phenomena in combustion fields are extremely complicated. The mixture and flow of air and fuel, phase changes in the fuel, and the chemical reactions that lead both to formation of new species and generation of heat, are all inter-related phenomena [1]. In addition, these phenomena have sharp temporal and spatial dependencies. For all these reasons, it is difficult to understand the fundamental aspects of combustion processes.
