ABSTRACT

By the beginning of 1945 the war situation for a battered Germany made it obvious that an evil end was at hand. On 12 January the Russian offensive at the centre of the East Front began, and in short order Russian troops were standing in Upper Silesia and on the Oder. With that there began for Erbslo¨h and von Willisen a time for difficult decisions that would determine the company’s future. Just to save the portions of the plant that had been moved to the east, they had to deal with fools who still believed in final victory and who would not hear of a withdrawal.
