ABSTRACT
One of the thoughts underlying the present book is that the structure of “nonlinear sets” can be understood by investigating their symmetry groups. And maybe the best description of the idea of symmetry group is provided by the notion of Lie group, which we are going to define now. Afterwards we shall be discussing some of the very basic properties of Lie groups.
