Appendix A Spectral Flow

In this appendix, we recall the notion of spectral flow for families of self-adjoint operators (Atiyah, Patodi and Singer 1976) and families of parameter-dependent operators (Nazaikinskii and Sternin 1999). We also discuss higher spectral flows (Dai and Zhang 1998, Melrose and Piazza 1997).
