ABSTRACT
In some elds of application it is quite common to have two different qualitative criteria for grouping units into blocks, the two criteria being cross-classied. That is, instead of the units being conceptually grouped into sets or blocks, arbitrarily numbered in each block, it may be reasonable to regard the units as arrayed in a two-dimensional way.
