ABSTRACT

The basic statistical model used for the description of the spatial distribution of galaxies is the inhomogeneous Poisson point process, where the intensity function is determined by a realization of a Gaussian random field. The goal of cosmography (cosmic cartography) is to study this realization. The motivation is, first, to see and understand the universe around us. Second, the better we map our local neighborhood, the better we are able to answer the questions about its statistical properties and its past.
