ABSTRACT
OMPUTATIONAL INTELLIGENCE is a generic term that includes topics in neural networks, artificial intelligence, computer vision, genetic algorithms, fuzzy logic, human-computer interaction, machine learning, intelligent robots, etc. As the “intelligence” is derived from computers or
both human and machine in the case of human-machine interaction, the intelligent behavior is not that of natural intelligence. However, the computational intelligence can achieve or exceed human intelligence in many situations and thus is very useful to many ocean engineering problems. Though the application of computational intelligence has been fragmented, making a comprehensive survey difficult, there has been some success using computational intelligence in ocean engineering.
