ABSTRACT
Waste containment system performance data are needed to conduct assessments that reveal the integrity of the barrier and verify that the operational aspects of the systems are functioning as designed. Biological, chemical, and physical phenomena in the subsurface or some combination thereof can impact the performance of subsurface barriers. To confirm the performance of the barrier and possibly determine where a failure has occurred, a well-planned and implemented monitoring system is required.
