ABSTRACT
Nonnutritive sweetener that has 300 times the sweetness of sucrose. Rats fed very high levels in studies developed urinary bladder tumors. The formation of tumors is not identical to the initiation and promotion of a cancer cell. Growth rates differ as do cellular characteristics. Saccharin thus remained on the market whereas sodium cyclamate was withdrawn.
