Mangoldt function The arithmetic function, denoted , which is defined as follows: (n) = log p if n = pi for some prime number p and positive integer i, and (n) = 0 otherwise. (See arithmetic function.) For example, (8) = log 2, (15) = 0. This function plays an important part in elementary proofs of the prime number theorem.
