ABSTRACT

Kelp There is no research available regarding the use of kelp as an ergogenic aid. Although several varieties of kelp have been analyzed for their nutritional contents, there is no reason to believe that kelp possesses any properties different from those of the nutrients it possesses. Kelp is generally considered rich in iodine and vitamins. Iodine supplementation is not known to affect exercise performance. Separate entries for each vitamin describe their potential uses as supplements for athletic performance. Although kelp is somewhat commonly used as a vitamin and mineral supplement, some concerns regarding its safety due to contaminants have been raised. 280
